The Pro Bono Manager will lead and coordinate the firm’s pro bono initiatives, with a strong emphasis on community service projects and partnerships with charitable foundations. This role is responsible for developing, managing, and promoting meaningful opportunities for attorneys and staff to engage in impactful legal and non-legal volunteer work that aligns with the firm’s values and commitment to social responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute firm-wide community service initiatives, including volunteer days, charitable drives, and internal/external events—both independently and in partnership with legal service organizations, nonprofits, and firm clients.
- Facilitate the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation’s mission-driven grantmaking process by streamlining applications, applying clear and accessible guidelines, and implementing a balanced grant management system.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with legal service organizations, nonprofit partners, and charitable foundations.
- Promote the firm’s pro bono and community engagement efforts through internal communications and external media channels.
- Collaborate with legal service organizations and attorneys to match attorneys with pro bono matters aligned with their interests and expertise.
- Provide training, resources, and mentorship to attorneys and staff engaged in pro bono matters and legal clinics.
- Track and report pro bono hours and impact metrics for internal stakeholders and external organizations.
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, bar requirements, and client guidelines related to pro bono work.
- Prepare internal and external reports, including submissions for rankings, awards, and recognition (e.g., AmLaw, Chambers).
- Represent the firm at community events, legal aid forums, and philanthropic gatherings.
The Successful Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in a legal services and/or law firm environment.
- Familiarity with rules and regulations governing charitable foundations.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage tasks independently.
- Ability to break down a larger goal into smaller, manageable, and prioritized actions.
- Passion for social justice, community service, and legal advocacy.
- Familiarity with legal aid organizations, charitable foundations, and community-based initiatives.
- Knowledge of pro bono best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to inspire and mobilize attorneys and staff around service initiatives.
- Proficiency in data tracking tools and reporting platforms.
