We have a unique and exciting permanent full-time opportunity for a Lawyer with up to 3 years' PAE to work on a full-time secondment at the Prisoners' Legal Service ('PLS').  PLS is a community legal centre based in Brisbane that works with incarcerated people in Queensland. PLS practice in administrative law and human rights law to help achieve the following goals:

  • Prevent and address human rights violations in prison
  • Increase safe release from prison and reduction of recidivism
  • Promote rehabilitation and reduction of recidivism
  • Reduce imprisonment rates for First Nations people and people with disability

PLS are committed to providing high quality representation to achieve meaningful outcomes for their clients.

The Successful Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will be an admitted Lawyer with up to 3 years' PAE with the following essential requirements. 

  • Current Queensland practising certificate
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong client service focus and a commitment to working with disadvantaged people
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information with discretion and compassion
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
  • Drivers licence and ability to attend prisons (criminal history check required)

Experience in administrative law and human rights law is also desirable.
