You will be part of a dynamic team and responsible for the management of the Firm’s pro bono program in assigned offices and contributing to the overall success of the pro bono program at the firm. This position will work with other talented individuals who share a passion for doing great work in the best interest of our firm. This role is classified as a professional staff role at the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, promotes, supports and evaluates a diversified program of pro bono opportunities, projects and teams for lawyers and paralegals in assigned offices
  • Oversees the development of resources and structure for pro bono projects and teams in assigned offices and cross-office as needed
  • Participates in developing and managing pro bono partnerships with corporate clients and the courts
  • Screens and evaluates requests to the firm for pro bono assistance; reviews incoming pro bono matters; identifies and resolves client and issue conflicts; secures approval for new matter intake when necessary and reviews new matter approval forms
  • Assists lawyers and professional staff in assigned offices on issues related to opening, staffing, and closing pro bono files and matters, including preparation of retention and closing letters
  • Develops and maintains ongoing, cooperative relationships with nonprofit, public interest, charitable and other community organizations and the courts for the purpose of coordinating current and potential pro bono case referrals, projects, or teams, and in order to identify and assess community needs for pro bono legal services.
  • Leads the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of firmwide goals relating to pro bono, particularly in assigned offices
  • Coordinates with others to develop and implement volunteer recognition programs for lawyers, consultants, and professional staff participating in pro bono activities
  • Assists the Director and Pro Bono Counsel with developing the annual budget for pro bono program costs and sponsorships in assigned offices
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in taking initiative while asking for direction or clarification and consulting others, as appropriate
  • Willingness to be flexible with time and adjust to a changing work environment
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations

What is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Minimum of 8 years legal and/or professional services experience
  • Demonstrated experience in pro bono program management experience
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
