The Pro Bono Project Assistant supports the Border Project, Jones Day’s groundbreaking pro bono initiative providing free legal services to asylum seekers along the Texas/Mexico border.
Key Responsibilities
The Pro Bono Project Assistant will assist lawyers who are providing pro bono immigration information and legal services to migrants as part of the Firm’s Border Project. The Project Assistant will primarily assist with conducting Know Your Rights presentations in shelters, detention facilities, and other settings; working with teams of lawyers to conduct individual meetings and consults with migrants in shelters, detention facilities, and other settings; communicating with migrants and the families of those migrants whom we have encountered through the Border Project; and supporting the Border Project trial teams. The Pro Bono Project Assistant will also perform administrative duties related to reviewing and organizing client records and files, managing client and migrant data, including entering relevant information into the Border Project database and preparing related charts and reports.
The Successful Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Immigration experience preferred but not required.
- Fluency in Spanish and English required.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and willing to learn additional database systems.
