Due to growth, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join our National Pro Bono team on a part-time basis. Supporting a Partner and team of three lawyers, you will form an integral part of the team assisting in the delivery of high-quality pro bono services to individuals facing hardship. Your work will help ensure clients receive the legal support they need. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Pro Bono team to respond to and triage a high quantity of initial enquiries from our community, received via our 1800 number, website and general inbox;
  • Booking and managing prospective client intake interviews;
  • Liaising with prospective clients to obtain copies of relevant Court documents and information;
  • Conducting conflict checks;
  • Opening, closing and managing files;
  • Ensuring files are kept up to date; 
  • Conducting legal research; 
  • Drafting and emailing/posting letters; and 
  • Facilitating warm referrals to other legal services. 

This is a part-time role working 22.5 hours per week. 

Please note we will not be considering penultimate or final year law students for this role. 

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience working at or volunteering in a community legal centre environment;
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in the social justice/pro bono legal sector;
  • Strong communication skills with a proactive mindset and the ability to build rapport with all stakeholders;
  • An empathetic approach towards individuals facing hardship;
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills; and
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
