The Senior Pro Bono Specialist will support the Pro Bono & Social Impact Department in achieving its 3% goal, deepening employee engagement, expanding firmwide social impact programming. This is a high-visibility role focused on building strategic relationships internally and externally, curating and coordinating pro bono opportunities, and managing projects that reflect the department’s drivers (Brand, Talent, Innovation). The ideal candidate is a connector, problem-solver, and project manager with a passion for access to justice and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with legal service organizations and become a primary contact for all pro bono opportunities and referrals. Maintain a contact list of community partners
  • Procure pro bono and social impact opportunities, ranging from half-day events to long term projects
  • Identify attorneys and paralegals to work on cases referred by legal services organizations and rehome matters when attorneys depart
  • Track attorney and paralegal interest areas and procure opportunities that align with their skills and interests
  • Work with the Pro Bono Committee to promote opportunities and events in their respective offices and practice groups; set the meeting agenda, and lead monthly committee meetings
  • Work with the Social Impact Committee to organize Volunteer Time Off events at firm office locations
  • Respond to DWT employee requests on the Gateway to Good platform and facilitate connections between legal services organizations and employees
  • Develop and maintain documents related to pro bono projects and clinics in order to create best practices and assist with project management
  • Present a pro bono and social impact overview as part of new hire orientation
  • Coordinate pro bono “Lunch and Learns” and other continuing legal education and social impact programming
  • Respond to inquiries regarding pro bono matters: assist with opening process for new matters, provide engagement letters templates, scope or redirect questions
  • Maintain the department’s Teams site to include historical responses to surveys and awards, monthly data reports, event photos, educational programming, and other key information
  • Maintain pro bono and social impact pages on the firm’s intranet and all internal email listservs
  • Track pro bono hours progress; prepare reports in an innovative, easily understood format so that dense information can be quickly understood by recipients, especially senior leadership
  • Run point on responses to data requests from nonprofits 
  • Facilitate  nomination  and  judging process for the firm’s Heart of Justice Awards
  • Manage pro bono and social impact programming for summer associates
  • Assist with distribution of swag and thank you notes as needed

The Successful Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in pro bono, or social impact, or nonprofit program coordination
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain professional discretion when dealing with highly sensitive, confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of interested parties, both in written and verbal communications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of SharePoint, Tableau, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment in both team and independent settings are required
  • Attention to detail, and analytical and organizational skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances
