The Pro Bono Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating the law firm’s pro bono initiatives. This role involves working closely with attorneys, legal service organizations, and community partners to facilitate meaningful pro bono opportunities that align with the firm's mission and values. The Pro Bono Manager will help ensure the successful administration, tracking, and promotion of the firm's pro bono efforts. This position will report to the Director of Special Projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with firm leadership to set pro bono goals and initiatives.
- Develop, manage, and coordinate the firm’s pro bono programs and initiatives.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with legal service organizations, legal aid providers, and community groups to establish pro bono opportunities.
- Serve as a liaison between the firm and external organizations to support pro bono partnerships.
- Work with attorneys and staff to match pro bono matters with appropriate skill sets and interests.
- Assist attorneys in navigating pro bono cases by providing necessary resources, training, and support.
- Monitor and track pro bono matters, ensuring compliance with firm policies and applicable legal and ethical requirements.
- Track and maintain detailed records of pro bono cases, including case status and court information, attorney involvement, and the tracking and sharing of case outcomes.
- Develop internal reports and maintain accurate records of pro bono hours and activities.
- Coordinate and direct Pro Bono Committee meetings, including agenda preparation, meeting coordination, and other information and updates as needed.
- Plan and execute Pro Bono week efforts, working with Pro Bono Committee, firm leaders, communications team, and CLE team.
- Assist with internal and external communications regarding pro bono efforts, including newsletters, website content, and award nominations.
The Successful Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD or legal experience preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in pro bono legal services, nonprofit management, or related field.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite, internal document management systems and case management or tracking software. Proficiency in legal research tools and software (e.g., iManage) is preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet required deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; dedication to accuracy, precision, and diligence in all deliverables.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as an individual contributor and part of a team.
