The Part-Time Staff Attorney will assist with various programs under the supervision of the managing attorney, primarily the domestic violence program.
Duties will include brief legal advice to survivors of domestic violence, intaking and interviewing clients, discussing legal and factual issues with the client (and managing attorney), researching points of law, drafting legal documents, and more.
This position will require travel to the Santa Clara County Family Justice Center Courthouse.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet/communicate with individual clients and potential clients
- Provide legal guidance and support to clients
- Prepare clients for court
- Prepare legal documents
- Keep apprised of case law and relevant court policies and procedures
- Prepare reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Successful Candidate
- California licensed attorney
- Experience in Family Law and/or domestic violence restraining order matters
- Excellent legal writing, legal research and communication skills
- Excellent client counseling skills
- Self-motivated with ability to motivate others
- Strong commitment to public service
- Excellent organizational, and computer skills
- Bilingual skills and a good sense of humor will be appreciated
