As Communications Director, you will lead iProbono’s global communications strategy and ensure our mission and impact are powerfully represented. As a member of the senior management & leadership team, you will strengthen the brand, guide media engagement, and oversee content across digital platforms, publications, and events. You will amplify stories from casework and advocacy, support fundraising through persuasive messaging, and lead the production of impact reports and campaigns. By managing and mentoring the communications team and coordinating with agencies and freelancers, you will deliver a responsive and dynamic communications function. This role is ideal for a senior communications professional who combines strategic vision with creativity and execution, and who can use storytelling as a tool to advance justice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the organisation’s overall communications and PR strategy aligned with iProbono’s mission and fundraising.
  • Serve as a member of the senior management and leadership team, advising on communications and PR opportunities.
  • Strengthen the charity’s brand, ensuring consistency across all channels.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication activities, using data and analytics to inform ongoing strategy.
  • Lead on creation and publication of impact reports.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets across iProbono jurisdictions.
  • Draft and disseminate press releases and statements to publicise iProbono’s work.
  • Amplify the outcomes from casework and other justice interventions to broader audiences.
  • Support advocacy and fundraising efforts through persuasive and tailored communications. 
  • Oversee iProbono’s digital presence, including website, social media, newsletters, and multimedia content.
  • Commission, edit, and produce content that engages diverse audiences — beneficiaries, funders, partners, and the public.
  • Lead public awareness campaigns and advocacy communications in line with Accelerate and Country program strategies.
  • Manage and document events organised by iProbono. 
  • Lead, mentor, and manage iProbono’s communications team.
  • Oversee and coordinate work with external agencies and freelancers.
  • Maintain and develop the database of media and network contacts. 

The Successful Candidate

  • You are a storyteller and strategist with several years of relevant experience in communications / PR /media relations.
  • Skilled at senior leadership and management, you know how to strengthen brands, manage digital platforms, and create content that inspires action. Most importantly, you will have a deep commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and ensuring justice for our clients. You bring proven success in building media relationships, leading campaigns, and using data to refine strategies. It is an asset to have experience of working with civil society organisations, media, lawyers, government, and policymakers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in English and at least one South Asian regional language.
  • Several years of experience in Communications / PR / Media relations.
  • Active social media user and demonstrable track record of building audiences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in guiding senior leadership on strategic communications and PR. 
  • Strong track record of building and managing relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.
  • Skilled in overseeing digital presence, brand management, and content across multiple channels.
  • Experience leading public awareness campaigns and advocacy communications.
  • Worked with civil society organisations, the development sector or with private sector companies.
  • Comfortable using data and analytics to evaluate and improve communications strategies.
  • Led a small team and delegated work effectively, including managing external agencies/freelancers.
  • Professional qualifications, such as a degree or industry-accredited diploma.
  • Desirable to have experience working with the legal sector and/ or in an international work environment.
